June 28 Worship - Philippians 1:12-18a

Welcome to Alton Reformed Church!  Even as we worship apart from one another, we seek to worship as a family!

Where two or three are gathered, God is present!

Prelude - Watch this song for your prelude to worship.

We Come Into God's Presence

Psalm 48:1 – Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise!

Greeting – Take a moment now to send a text greeting to a friend (someone from ARC or elsewhere).  Parents: let your kids send a greeting, as well.

Membership – Michael Wolgen

This morning it is our joy to welcome Michael Wolgen into membership as he makes profession of faith and becomes a confessing member of ARC.

Scripture promises: If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved.  The scripture says, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.”

Romans 10:9-11

These are the questions we will ask Michael, so that we can hear him declare his faith, that we might rejoice together, and welcome him as a brother in Christ.

Do you believe in one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and confess Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord?

Do you accept the Gospel of God’s Grace in Jesus Christ revealed in the holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as the only way to eternal life?

Do you acknowledge that you are a sinner, sinful by nature, but that by the grace of God alone your sins have been forgiven and your old nature put to death, so that you may be brought to newness of life and set apart as a member of the body of Christ?

Knowing what Christ has done for you and as you make your commitment to him, how will you now live?  How will your life be different?

As you become a member of ARC, how will you live within the church?

We ask the congregation to express their commitment to walk the Christian walk with Michael.

Do you, the members of this congregation promise to love, encourage, and support this sister in the faith by teaching the gospel of God’s love, by being an example of Christian faith and character and by giving the strong support of God’s family in fellowship, prayer, and service?

In the name of Jesus Christ, we now welcome you into Christian fellowship and pledge to you our love and support in life and faith.  May God enable us all to walk together in harmony and in holiness; to help one another by word and example in the faithful love of Jesus Christ and one another, and to live in all things as it becomes the gospel of Christ.

Hearing God's Word

Scripture: Philippians 1:12-18a – 12Now I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel.  13As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.  14Because of my chains, most of the brothers in the Lord have been encouraged to speak the word of God more courageously and fearlessly.  15It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.  16The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel.  17The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.  18But what does it matter?  The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached.  And because of this I rejoice.
